ECO4 Grants and Funding – Get Help with Energy-Saving Upgrades
If you’re looking to make your home warmer, cheaper to run, and more energy efficient — the ECO4 scheme could be just what you need. Funded by the UK government and delivered by energy suppliers, ECO4 offers free or heavily subsidised improvements to homes across England, Scotland, and Wales.
What is the ECO4 Scheme?
ECO4 (Energy Company Obligation – Phase 4) is the latest phase of a government-backed initiative that helps households improve their energy efficiency while reducing carbon emissions. Launched in April 2022 and running until March 2026, it focuses on supporting low-income, fuel-poor, and vulnerable households.
The scheme is funded by the largest UK energy companies and delivered through approved installers. If you’re eligible, you may receive home upgrades at no cost to you.
What Can ECO4 Fund?
Depending on your property type, current heating system, and insulation levels, ECO4 may fund one or more of the following upgrades:
✅ Loft Insulation – reduce heat loss through your roof
✅ Cavity Wall Insulation – boost the efficiency of your home’s walls
✅ Room-in-Roof or Internal Wall Insulation – for more complex builds
✅ Air Source Heat Pumps – low-carbon heating systems
✅ Solar PV Panels – generate your own electricity
✅ Electric Storage Heaters or Heating Controls
✅ First-Time Central Heating Systems
✅ Smart Heating Upgrades – thermostats and zoning systems
✅ Ventilation Improvements – to keep air flow safe and balanced
Each home is assessed individually, and an installer will tailor a package of improvements based on your needs.
Who is Eligible for ECO4?
To qualify, your household must meet certain criteria, including:
Receiving income-related benefits, such as:
Universal Credit
Pension Credit
Income Support
Child Tax Credit
Working Tax Credit
Housing Benefit (new to ECO4)
Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
Or qualifying through LA Flex, the council-led eligibility route (based on health, income, or energy performance)
You must also own or privately rent your home, and it must have a poor Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating — typically E, F or G.
Private renters will need permission from their landlord, and landlords may be required to make a financial contribution.

Why Apply Now?
With energy prices at record highs, there’s never been a better time to improve your home’s efficiency — and you may not get the same level of support in future schemes.
ECO4 funding is limited, and as more people become aware of it, demand is increasing. The sooner you apply, the sooner you could start saving.
